Sky New Zealand - Lower Thirds
Role
Digital Design, Motion Design
Design Lead
David Cullen
Lower third graphics designed for Sky NZ broadcasts, spanning drama launches, live sport coverage, and promotional campaigns across TV and streaming.
Each project involved working to broadcast-safe specifications, adapting existing brand assets and animation files to fit specific formats, and producing multiple versions to suit different messaging and airtimes.
Marshals
Marshals, the fourth series in the Yellowstone franchise, premiered on Sky (Channel 5), Sky Go, and Neon on 23 March 2026. Ahead of and during the launch, lower-third graphics, baseline graphics, and popup assets were designed to support the promotional campaign.
The brief came with a widescreen animation working file that needed to be reworked into a much narrower broadcast spec. This involved pulling the original animation apart, rebuilding it to fit the new format, adjusting timing to bring a 15-second animation down to 10 seconds, and adjusting the perspective of images within the source PSD files to suit the smaller aspect ratio. The working file itself needed troubleshooting along the way, including software errors on open and relinking assets that had gone missing from the supplied folder.
Widescreen animation
Four versions were produced from the same base animation, each carrying different messaging to suit different points in the campaign, from launch countdowns to weekly airtime reminders.
Live Sports Coverage –
Formula 1 & Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
For Sky's coverage of the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Formula 1, baseline graphics were designed and prepared in advance for use during live broadcast.
The graphics were built to Sky's broadcast-safe specifications. Commonwealth Games baselines promoted the Sky Sport Now pass, pairing a call to action, pricing, and a link to the Sky Sport Now website. F1 baselines carried event and sponsor naming, alongside session date and time call-outs.
